Rachel stands on top of the hill where Bentley's pit used to be. It is now a nature park. In its centre stands a metal sculpture called Monument by Mike Bunn, a miners son, sculptor and lecturer at the new Doncaster university.
Bentley Colliery was closed in 1993. The derelict site became part of English Partnerships' National Coalfield Programme in 1998.
